ExemptEnvironmental Affairs AdvisorRWE Offshore WindHybrid position, Boston or San Francisco basedJob SummaryRWE Offshore Wind Holdings, LLC is looking for an Environmental Affairs Advisor to join our growing team of environmental and social performance professionals working to develop a best in class portfolio of offshore wind projects in multiple regions of the United States. The successful candidate will support the development
of RWE exciting portfolio of projects.This is a hybrid role that will be associated to either our Boston or San Francisco office with regular travel in the US.Areas of ResponsibilitySupport Federal and State permitting efforts by designing and providing oversight of multi-year environmental surveys, including the procurement and contracting of consultant/contractor servicesProvide technical, biological, ecological, and environmental expertise in support of offshore wind project development activitiesParticipate in local, state, regional, and national environmental working groups to identify and address key environmental challenges and concerns associated with developing offshore wind energy projectsAssist with external public, private, or academic collaborative partnerships on environmental initiativesParticipate as a team member of bid teams developing proposals in response to solicitations for offshore wind energy, environmental partnership development, bid writing, and outreach effortsIdentify and assess both positive and negative environmental, social, and sustainability impacts of the company’s operations within a net positive impact framework; develop plans to characterize and maximize net positive impact within a framework of broader, RWE-wide corporate goals and directivesPromote sustainability throughout the organization by creating awareness and understanding of sustainability principles and practicesProvide an interface between internal technical teams (e.g., Engineering, Site Investigations) and external subject matter expert consulting support, focused on developing collaborative approaches to environmental risk management in projectsMaintain and/or develop working knowledge of the latest technical, regulatory and commercial developments in specialist disciplines that have the potential to reduce cost and/or risk, and improve environmental performanceParticipate in the review of a Construction and Operations Plan (COP) for submission to the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM), and Incidental Take Authorizations to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), as well as other federal, state, and local applications to applicable resource agencies involved in the permitting of RWE projectsUnderstand corporate and specifically offshore wind sustainability trends and best practices and provide recommendations for improvements, in particular on actions to reduce cost and/or risk, and improve environmental performanceDevelop and implement project-specific sustainability strategies to ensure project development and operation is aligned with RWE’s environmental
performance and sustainability objectivesCandidate profileTo succeed in this role, you will have the following:A degree in a field of environmental engineering/science/studies, marine affairs, natural resources, biology, ecology, or related field from an accredited program3-5 years of relevant work experience with a preference for candidates that have prior experience in the offshore energy sectorStrong understanding of environmental and social impact assessments, sustainability principles, the incorporation of Traditional Ecological Knowledge in impact assessment, and stakeholder engagementPrevious experience in baseline data collection design and survey oversight is considered an assetExcellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage with internal and external stakeholdersStrong analytical and problem-solving skills and attention to detailAbility to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong focus on results.Ability to work under pressure and within tight deadlinesAbility to adapt and work in a fast-paced working environment, be responsive to change, and find paths to action in a very dynamic industryProficiency in sustainability reporting software tools and databases is considered an assetDeep technical expertise in one, or more, of the following areas would be considered an asset: underwater acoustics, marine mammalogy, avifauna scienceExperience communicating technical material in creative ways both externally and internally (principally to internal technical teams)
